Jodhpur fake degree case: ED screws over Kamal Mehta, seized assets worth 12.98 crore


new Delhi: ED Has attached assets worth 12.98 crore to Kamal Mehta, former chairman of Jodhpur National University. Among the attached properties of Kamal Mehta are 12 flats, 3 plots, 31 bighas of land in Jaipur and Jodhpur and money deposited in bank accounts. This property was created by selling fake degrees by Kamal Mehta.

Kamal Mehta created the Kushal Education Trust of which he himself was the chief trustee. This trust started National University in Jodhpur in 2008. Kamal Mehta was the chairman of this university. It is alleged that from the year 2010 to 2014, he distributed about 25000 fake degrees with money.

Kamal Mehta appointed four National Coordinators of Jodhpur National University without the approval of UGC and issued fake letters to all four by making a fake signature of the Registrar. All four were empowered that they can open centers and sub-centers across the country and through this they can take the exam by issuing the form after taking a fee. And through this, fake degrees were distributed.

When the Rajasthan Police came to know about this, he registered a case and started the investigation. During investigation, it was found that Kamal Mehta was issuing fake degree for 10 to 15 thousand rupees and that too without taking examination. Kamal Mehta was running this entire network together with his four colleagues. Another office of the university was opened to sell fake degrees. Police arrested eight people including Kamal Mehta in this case and filed a charge sheet.

The ED registered a case of money laundering based on the action and charge sheet of Rajasthan SOG and started an investigation in which it was found that Kamal Mehta had earned Rs 22.3 crore through the four National Coordinators by selling fake dregies. These money were deposited in bank accounts opened in Jaipur and Jodhpur in the name of National University, Kushal Education Trust and Surya Nagri Education Trust.

The investigation also revealed that Kamal Mehta fraudulently deposited the money earned by selling fake degrees in banks and then bought assets from these funds in his own name, wife Sarita Mehta, Kushal Education Trust and other names. So that no one is aware. ED had earlier taken action in this case and attached assets worth 8.53 crore which were in the names of Kamal Mehta, Kushal Education Trust and others. Now ED has attached assets worth 12.98 crores, after which a total assets of 21.51 crores have been attached so far.
