Siliguri, July 24: After a long hiatus, the vegetable and fruit warehouse at the Regulated Market in Siliguri reopened today. However, the fish market is closed.
It is learned that a meeting of the task force on Tuesday decided to open the market from July 23. But the market was not opened yesterday due to lockdown across the state. Then the market is open from today. However, it has been instructed to do business in the market while maintaining social distance and following the administrative guidelines. It is learned that legal action will be taken if the guidelines are not complied with. Crowds of people can be seen in the market after the opening on the first day.
Tomorrow is the second lockdown of the week across the state. Due to this, the regulated market will be closed again tomorrow.
Shiv Kumar, secretary of the Vegetable and Fruit Market Association, said he supported the government’s decision in this situation. However, as a result of the closure of the market, they have suffered a lot. He further said that the employees of the market have been instructed to work in accordance with the administrative guidelines.
